CPD Framework
Supporting the Learner Journey is a CPD framework, accredited by OCNSWR, designed specifically for the professional development of any one supporting people who are endeavoring to learn in any setting and context. There are 14 units that include generic needs, for example role and responsibilities, initial assessment and safeguarding. Other units focus on strategies for supporting people with specific difficulties such as Mental Health issues, sensory impairment, physical difficulties and those who are on the Autistic spectrum.
Research has shown that employers wish to define the learning support role more clearly and to identify how the role can vary from one context to another. Practitioners also wish for clarity and opportunities to progress in their roles. To meet these twin objectives the CPD Framework has been mapped to Lifelong Learning UK's new National Occupation Standards. The CPD Framework is designed to allow LSPs to select personal progression routes matched to their own knowledge, skills and experience. Two modules and stages have been devised:
Module 1: Generic Core at Level 2 and Level 3 can provide an induction for newly appointed staff to become operational in their roles or for established staff to update and share best practice: There are seven units:
-
GCUnit One: CPD Introduction and Review

-
GCUnit Four: Introduction to Communicating with Learners with Specific Difficulties

GCUnit Six: Introduction to Personal Care
